A total of 666 cases of diabetes mellitus were reviewed, who were admitted to the Korea General Hospital during the recent six years and ten months from December 1968 to August 1975.
1) The incidence of diabetes among in-patient to the medical. ward was 2.25 percent, showing 1. 5 versus 1 in male female ratio and the most prevalent age group was in fifth decade of age in both sex.
2) Common subjective complaints n a mission were thirst (17.6%), general weakness (14.0%), headache (12.6%), and polyuria (12.5%).
3) Hypercholesterolemia (over 200mg%) was seen in 40.0%.
4) On fundoscopy, diabetic retinopathy was 28.2%, hypertensive retinopathy was 8.3% and aterosclerotic retinopathy was 1.7%.
5) As to the common complications, infection in 28.0%, neuropathy in 20.7% and hypertension in 19.5% of the cases.
6) 10. 8% of cases had poor control to the treatment with diet, oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin.
